Arborist Terms and Quizzes

I’ll admit. Most of our customers could care less about the difference between the phloem and the cambium or what the abiotic features of a tree are. They just want their tree healthy and looking good.

But there are also the tree fanatics.

This includes the Arborscape staff, who to a man, seem to have an indefatigable curiosity about the biology and ecology of the tree. So if you are super pumped for trees or are an arborist  in training, I’ve put together a list of some quizzes, tests and resources that are freely available online.

ISA Arborist Certification Glossary

This glossary is culled from the ISA Certified arborist test. 790 of the hardest and most technical terms having to do with your trees. The platform where these are hosted,  Quizlet, allows you to create your own tests and flash decks. The flashcards can be flipped and shuffled as you master the terms. There is even a feature to say the definition out loud.

Urban Tree Care Terms

Urban foresty has it’s own set of concerns and certain terms are used specially for urban trees. One interesting fact I learned from this test was that 50% of the sugars produced by the tree are used by the roots that same day.

Once you’re done boning up aren’t you curious how you’d do on the arborist certification test. If so check out this online freebie. All you need to do is put in your name when prompted and it will run you through the test. Get more than 70% right and that’s technically a passing grade for the arborist certification. Good luck!

Once your done with that, here is another free arborist test that was also fun and informative.

Last but not least is this fun tree identification quiz from the Arbor Day Foundation. The question we probably get more than anything is “what kind of tree is this?”

Here is a visual quiz to start getting you up to speed.
